Jakarta, August 19th, 2021 — This is the first time that KALM presents a new event concept for KALMers. The concept of this event is named KALM Curhat. Do you guys know about this event? What exactly is KALM Curhat?
KALM Curhat is an event designed by KALM to facilitate KALMers to discuss mental health topics. Different from KALM Webinar which focuses on presenting content of the topic, KALM Curhat emphasizes on sharing of thoughts and feelings. The goal is for participants to be more comfortable telling stories and asking Kalmselor about the issues.
Sharing About Toxic Family
The first KALM Curhat event took “Adult-Children in Toxic Family” as a topic. KALM choose this topic because although it is actually experienced by many people, the topic is still rarely discussed. Either because it is taboo/unusual or not getting much attention.
Therefore, this event aims to provide a safe space for participants to express their feelings about their experiences in the Toxic Family. It is hoped that they can gain new perspectives from other participants and make them understand how to deal with Toxic Family from the Psychologists.
This one and a half hour event was accompanied by a Psychologist and KALM Co-Founder, Karina Negara. Together with more than 40 participants who attended, Karina Negara invited all those present to be more open about this issue.
“Sometimes people misunderstand, toxic doesn’t have to be as extreme as physically abusing. If he/she, the person, makes us feel not safe or emotionally insecure to be around them, it is actually toxic,” said Karina Negara.
“Remember, not safe is different from not comfortable, okay? It is not about being uncomfortable. If it’s just uncomfortable, there will be many things that make us uncomfortable… Even things that are good for us can be uncomfortable,” she points out.
